Spring Cheer

Spring cheer at the Lodge! Even though we are in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains we are always happy to greet the arrival of spring. The sun is brighter. The grass is greener, and our spirits soar with new possibilities.

We are excited to tell you about our upcoming springtime events:

First and foremost, on May 8th we will be celebrating Mother’s Day at The Lodge with an elegant dinner and roses for all our special Moms. Standby for details.

We are also preparing for the Sequim Irrigation Festival which kicks off on May 6th and concludes with a fun-filled series of events on the weekend the 14th and 15th.

May Pole

Odd as it may sound, the Sequim area was a parched prairie until 1895 when D.R. “Crazy” Callen, recently arrived from Colorado, suggested an irrigation system like the one he had seen there. A plan was drawn up and water diverted from the Dungeness River to the dry plain. The rest, as they say, is history. A year later, in 1896, the achievement was celebrated at Crazy’s farm, and it has become an annual event ever since. This year’s Festival, the 121st, and ranks as the oldest continuous festival in Washington State.

This year, Lodge resident Jo Robb will be featured as Sequim’s Honorary Pioneer for 2016, and our Grand Parade entry on May 14th will feature a 1956 Chevy station wagon with several other residents riding along to represent us in celebration of the event.

In addition to the Mothers Day dinner and the Sequim Irrigation Festival, we will also want you to know about our Resident Art, Craft, and Collectible Show on April 27th from 1 – 4 p.m. in the Media Room and Foyer of The Lodge. Art work created by the residents will include driftwood, ceramic painting, quilting, beading, and canvas painting along with collections of dolls, spoons, coins, photographs and other collectibles. We know you will enjoy seeing the creativity and artistic interests of our residents.

I hope to see you at these events and to share the fun with you.
